Day 3: Grand Ronde

Distance: 67 miles avg: 11.6
As a desert-dweller I don’t cope well with cold And rain. My main problem seems to be staying dry. Your body sweats loads in the desert but you don’t notice it. Mostly it evaporates immediately. In Oregon that sweat doesn’t evaporate. I wish my body had a configurable parameter for sweat!

Today was a tough day with rain and cold. It looks like I may have some warmer weather soon. I sure could use it.

The best advice I can give for dealing with cold, damp weather is to wear skin tight clothing that is made of wicking fabrics. Polyester is an excellent choice. Also I recommend thin layers. When Jessica and I would cross country ski we would do so in many thin polyester layers. This kept us relatively dry and warm.

I’ve been biking in denim jeans…and just bought some nice nylon pants. I’m looking for a vest now, since my arms seem to get really wet. Thanks for the tips!
