I feel like I’ve been living in the camping dark ages. This gear I bought yesterday shedded 10-15 pounds off my load! And it’s better gear! And it’s smaller!
This morning I did a repack, and put in some new gear. I was able to pick up a new sleeping bag and tent on clearance. I also bought a thing that turns my closed-foam matress into a chair. I was very skeptical at first but I’m totally sold now.
Today went pretty much as planned. Which is pretty cool. I feel like I’m getting the hang of this. My body feels pretty good, and I made good time.
So I’m in a “campground” which seems less like a campground and more like some kind of tent parking lot. I have four electric outlets, water, and a barbecue stuffed with toilet paper. It has a surreal 50s vibe. A lot of faded hand-painted signs. There’s a little log cabin with an American flag on it. A swingset sits next to a swimming pool. Picacho is a mess of a city, but somehow this little campground is kept tidy. The owner had little charisma, but showed that he cared about the place. He had someone show me to my spot. That was a nice touch. He pointed out all the amenities which all work as expected. An interesting place!
