Me and John rode the whole day together, which provided some good company and some interesting conversations. The day was 52 miles of climbing, sometimes slow, sometimes more. Plus another 8 or so miles of downhill. We ran into some heavy rain but went through it fine and dried off.
We weren’t able to go as far as we would have liked tho, and had to stop. We had another thousand foot climb ahead of us, and then we started hearing thunder. We both immediately thought ‘holy fuck’ and tried to get a tent up asap. This did not work as intended tho and I was setting up my tent in rain and… hail!
Amazingly, as soon as I was sponging up the pools of water out of my tent, the rain stopped cold. Very disappointing. We could’ve kept biking, and not had to set up camp in a storm. We thought we were in for ‘the big one’, which is expected around now and expected to last for a while. Regardless, I’m now toasty inside my sleeping bag, ready to crash.

Great stuff man…this is so much better than the “Truman Show” :D.
Is John going TransAmerica as well? That’s a substory in itself for all of us wannabes who owned bitchin’ Schwinns growing up.
You’re so amazing for actually going through with this adventure. I’m proud of you. 🙂
only you can prevent forest fires… only you…
John could be considered the Sean Cassady in On The Road or John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. He’s a character that is a thousand substories.
Yay! Thx cutey! Can’t wait to be back having adventures with you.
