I’ve been topping out at some of these downhill at 35-37 mph. I don’t spin tho because that causes a shimmy. Today had some pretty great downhills where I stayed above 30 for a while.
The climbs were nice, too. We had a lot of snow and it helped keep us cool as we pumped uphill.
There wasn’t much between our campsite and Baker City. Once there we ran errands and chatted with the locals. I swapped out my copy of T.C. Boyle’s Drop City at a used book store. I got an old paperback of ‘Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman’ for $2.50!! Bought some groceries. dried our wet stuff from the storm at the laundromat. My (new!) tent’s pole cracked, and I bought a couple spacers at ace and did a quick fix on it. I did some life maintenance in bulk, then off for more adventure.
Before we left a very nice gentleman informed us there was nowhere to camp for 45 miles outside of Baker City. He was worried about us and generously offered that we could stay at his place. It was difficult to turn him down but we opted to get another 14 miles in. Shortly we found a great spot to camp by the side of the road without problem.
