Distance: 70 avg: 10.6
We left from our campsite/lawn and started immediately biking up our 2000′ climb. A family of deer crossed the road, just as curious about us. Idaho’s road are built much steeper than Oregon’s, possibly out of necessity. I hit a new top speed of 37.7 today.
We took a slight off-road detour onto the Weiser (Pronounced weezer) River Trail. It’s an offroad trail converted from an unused train track. It was fun to get away from the traffic. The trail was offroad and so soon after we jumped back on the freeway and made it to New Meadows.
A small, sadly dwindling town, I found a gem of a little hotel to relax in, the Hartland Inn. The owners are a fun older couple from Phoenix who’ve been here for 25 years.
Hopefully some rest in this hotel will fix up my cold, which seems to have moved to my chest. I’m surprised was able to get 70 miles in with this bastard!

oddly, this Sunday Morning, reading your posts and looking at your pics, I felt like I was watching the CBS program, “Sunday Morning”. Charles Kuralt was the host and his personal contributions were called “On The Road” . He had a knack for capturing the unique beauty of the American countryside and these segments became his legacy. Your mini essays, in many ways, do the same.
I agree. The pictures you take of the countryside and small towns are wonderful! Wish I could be there. 🙂
thanks, Cutey! I’ll have to take you out on some adventures in Pueblo!
