Day 9: Gone Fishing!

Trout fishing that is! Today was a rest day and I had a mission: learn to fish! I haven’t fished since I was 10, and everywhere I went there were people fishing. People even had fish-shaped mailboxes. So I felt it was time.

I got some tips from the locals. My fishing guru became Wally, who hosted the Ochoco lake campground. I bikes into town and bought a license, came back and wally lent me his gear.

Wally’s one of those great kind hearted souls I’ve met on my journey. 77 years old, with 7 great-grandchildren and married to the same woman for 59 years. He has a Pioneer fishing license good for life. He didn’t think twice about letting me, a total stranger, borrow his fishing gear.

So I took a rod and bait and headed out to the lake. Boy do I suck at fishing. I won’t go into the details but I’ve got a lot to learn. I’m going to stick at it tho. I’ll get a rod and gear and soon there will be a picture of a big fat trout on this blog!

Rhino makes a great travel rod. You can pick it and some gear up for under $75 bucks. The rod and real have served me well and the case is easy to strap to other gear. Good luck with the fishing!!
