Today I bid farewell to Jason, kind of late, and headed out. No tummies were tickled on the way out, btw, Jason! 😛
I saw this strange plant growing that I hadn’t seen before. It had huge leaves, and tiny little flowers up top. I asked a lady what it was: tobacco! I saw a couple more fields as I rode. The smell of tobacco is very fragrant before it’s turned into cigarettes!
Nothing dramatic happened today, except that I got lost TWICE! I don’t know how but I missed the turn twice. Thankfully my trusty gps was able to help me out and get me back on track.
I now know much about the locations Lincoln and his family visited as they moved around America. I made it over to a state park named after his homestead, but I’m pretty sure he never actually lived around here, but his parents did.
Tomorrow I finish another map and start on my journey into the lair of the mountain people. I will be happy to have that part over with. It weighs on my mind, even though many cyclists have made it through without issue. Sometimes I worry too much!

If you hear dueling banjoes ride fast. Ride very very fast.
I’ll probably hear more barking dogs. 😛
Lair? Hum. that sound like profiling. When I drove through the Smokey Mountains in 1970 the big problem was acid rain. And that favorite of mine “humidity”. I left and haven’t looked back. How are things there 39 years later? There were a lot of poor people then in the valleys. Are those the lairs you are concerned about? Do they have internet like Iraq ?Stay safe love XXXOOOXXX MOM
Is the bottom picture of tobacco? So pretty. 🙂
You got it! That’s tobacco!
