Tall mountains and rain? Have I been teleported back to Oregon? The mountains are round instead of jagged, the ferns have been replaced by kudzu. At the top I watched as a cloud of mist engulfed me. I put on my booties and a jacket and kept going. Soon I was completely drenched, and soon enough I was dry again.
The climbs were tough. I had to ‘weave’ up the mountain to have enough speed to keep moving. Definitely the hardest climb, but now I have a rather non-eventful 3 days to the coast.
I pulled in to Charlottesville and the University of Virginia has an exhibit on Poe. And I was thinking about a rest day here, and now that confirms it! Woohoo!
I went to ‘The Cookie Lady’s’ house in Afton. She’s been giving cookies to cyclists for 33 years! She has an entire house converted into a museum, and takes a Polaroid of each cyclist that rolls through. She’s the quintessential little old lady who tells extremely long stories. I left her to talk with a couple English guys who showed up and munched down some little Debbie cakes. 🙂
