Day 86: Glendale

Distance: 83 avg: 12.8

Today I had the police called on me after attending vacation bible study. I must look pretty dangerous. Or homeless.

I arrived in Glendale, which has a church which allows cyclists to stay there. But it turns out that vacation bible school was going on. So from 6:30 to 8:30 if I wanted some peace and quiet I had to go to the sanctuary. Or so i was told. Turns out that the whole complex was being used in some way shape or form.

At first I was interested in checking out what vacation bible school is. Its basically singing, dancing, and games, all bible-themed. After watching 5-year olds dance and sing to videos I had my fill. After 80 miles I was tired and didn’t want to be around loud kids. I wandered and couldn’t find a quiet spot.

So I went and sat across the street on a guard rail. I called Paola and started replying to blog posts. Two police cars pull up. Someone called and said there was a suspicious person they didn’t know in the neighborhood. He asked for Id and I showed it to him. I explained to him what I was doing and he seemed already disinterested. He could tell that I was just some dude, and someone was overly paranoid. I headed back over to the church and tried not to laugh. Yeah, I’m tough, look at me funny and I’ll cut ya with the Kentuckenator!

The people at the church laughed but were also slightly embarassed. I laughed with them and they were put at ease.

In other news today’s cycling was relaxed and enjoyable. Getting around Richmond was heavy traffic in Suburbia. I realize how great Tucson’s
bike paths are the more cities like this I pass through. And tomorrow is the last day of cycling! I can’t believe the day is here! It feels surreal, and after tonight’s events, that says a lot!

Well done Chill, you’ve been accused of being homeless. You are indeed doing it right.

Honestly, and I don’t know why, but Gary Numan’s ‘Cars’ was running through my head. How weird is that?

yeah, I had a feeling you might appreciate my homeless moment. 🙂 But I have shaved and have reverted to the clean cut boy scout look.

Lol. That would have been a cool trick if you were able to fake 4200 miles of the united states. Or maybe you did?! I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that I was the center of the universe!
