Back in 2009 I took some time off work and did a bike ride across the US, from Astoria, Oregon to Charlottesville, Virginia. I’ve gone ahead and migrated the blog over to this blog (comments and all! )and tagged them.
This trip was at a time when you had to use these things called ‘paper maps’ and ask for directions. I actually had an iphone with gps and Google Maps, but I mainly had to keep it off most of the time, to conserve battery in case of emergency.

It was a great trip, and I blogged to wordpress via my phone, which was a novel concept at the time. I had to get a special app to post from my phone to the blog. I also got an app that allowed me to add text and bubbles to the images, (also a novel concept). Image quality is pretty low by today’s phone standards!

I met a lot of other cyclists on my journey as well, and saw so many unique places and things. I could mention a number of highlights, but one of the top is likely Yellowstone and Old Faithful

Fun fact, I still have the same bike, which I’ve named Theseus after the mythical ship, as I’ve replaced practically every part on it. Its a Surly Long Haul Trucker with an Xtracycle FreeRadical kit. And I’m still bikepacking on it to this day!
