California High Speed Rail
Reports of the Death of California High-Speed Rail Have Been Greatly Exaggerated—Asterisk – Trains and public transport are the answer to car dependency. I would love to see better high speed rail in America, and its good to understand the reasons why we don’t have these nice things in the US.

Nerding It Up
Zima Board 2
The Zima Board 2 is on kickstarter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WYBvbn-mgQ I own a Zima Board 1 and a Zima Blade. The Zima Blade is my NAS running TrueNAS Scale. The Zima Board 1 and CasaOS didn’t really work very well in my opinion. I wanted a mirrored raid config and TrueNAS with ZFS has worked better for me. It took months to ship the blade. It runs very very hot and I have some big fans on it. If I were to rebuild my NAS I wouldn’t dick around with these toy systems, and just set up a normal computer running linux. Still an interesting piece of hardware.
Pewdiepie on Linux
Pewdiepie becoming a desktop linux advocate was not something I anticipated. I was pretty impressed by his ‘ricing’ and agreed on his points. Desktop linux has come a long way and its a very capable alternative to windows that I highly recommend.
Linus Torvalds on LLMs
I really enjoyed this quote:
Sometimes you have to be a bit too optimistic to make a difference. — Linus Torvalds
Music & Noises
The Viagra Boys have a new album ‘viagr aboys’.
Cave World was a phenomenal album and hard to live up to, but so far, I’m enjoying this fourth release. Its different and that’s good. Strangely its not available for purchase digitally, only available for streaming, but it does look like Amazon has mp3s for sale. This isn’t the first time I’ve found it difficult to purchase an album digitally. At some point will using flac be hipster? Is it already?
