New Foldable Helmet Day!

I was over in San Juan on vacation, and left my folding helmet at the store by accident while I was getting groceries.

Having a good time, not realizing he’s forgotten his helmet!

Now, you might be wondering how you can forget a helmet? 🤔 its because I was just picking up some drinks for everyone, and after leaving the shop I left the helmet on a ledge then walked instead of biking the 30 feet to the airbnb. I had one of these Closca helmets:

While this was a good helmet, and the people on their site sure look like models wearing them, I could not seem to achieve the same level of aloof beauty wearing mine. In all honesty, in person it looks more like:

Me in my Closca, ready to kill some bugs, SIR!

So while I wasn’t necessarily unhappy with it, I decided to instead go ahead and purchase a Fend foldable helmet to try something different.

Which now reminds me of

Assume the party escort submission position or you will miss the party!

It unfolds easily, and it even lights up!

I’m much happier with the look. I appreciate the detachable lights (we also own a Faro helmet from Unit 1 with lights that I’d give a repairability score of zero). It is a bit on the heavy side, but I’m ok with that. It’s lighter than my wife’s Faro, but heavier than my POC Omne road helmet.

I feel the folded up shape fits better in my Brompton bag. The Closca, while roughly the same size folded, didn’t ‘tetris’ into my bag as well.

You can see i can shove it over to the side more, leaving the rest of the bag for various groceries. Hopefully next time I’m in San Juan I don’t forget this 🫠
